When it comes to playing your digital piano with ease and creating exquisite music it doesn’t just come down to the quality of your piano but also the accessories you use with it. Do you choose comfort, price or quality and is there one that has all three of these things? Read below and find out. I took five of the most asked about keyboard benches and tested each one out, so, if you are looking for a review and a recommendation of what to purchase then read on below.
Yamaha PKBB1 Adjustable Padded Keyboard X-Style Bench
As always the Yamaha never ceases to disappoint me when it comes to price and quality so I decided to try the adjustable Yamaha bench. The one thing that impressed me when first seeing it was the steel sturdy construction, the padded seat and the compact look.
When using a keyboard bench first comes comfort and then second ease of use. I wanted it to be compact and lightweight and although this was compact it was a little on the heavy side. Saying that, it folded down great so I could store into tight places.
This soft bench has a three position height adjustment which makes it great for short people like myself. The X style makes it sturdy and will take movement without toppling over, it also has a grip on the feet which makes it non slip. Overall for the price, which is on the lower end this black slick bench did the job perfectly.

If you’re after a wooden piano bench that looks classy, expensive yet doesn’t carry the price tag, then here we are.The Yamaha seemed a little simple looking so I decided to go ahead next and look at something a bit more classical and yet elegant looking. The SONGMICS was a bench I fell in love with at first sight. The passed wooden bench was topped with faux leather and had a really luxurious feel to it. The solid wood construction impressed me a lot and the bench itself has a hinged lid so you can store music sheets and other accessories you need when playing your piano.
At the higher end of the price range, the one thing that let this down is the fact that it isn’t as compact and adjustable as the Yamaha. Saying that, it is simple, elegant and super easy to assemble. Depending on what you need the bench for exactly, I preferred the look and the function of the hidden compartment but found it to be bulky when using in my small music space. If you’re needing a piano bench with storage, then this has to be worth looking at.
Casio ARBENCH X-Style Adjustable Padded Keyboard Bench

So after looking at something a bit more luxurious and higher priced and something which is made to be compact and just do the job, I decided to go ahead and check out the compact adjustable Casio bench. This looked a little less sturdy than the Yamaha and in all honesty didn’t feel at all stable when I sat on it. Saying that, the finish was simple and classic and the no-nonsense style went side by side with my digital keyboard.
The Casio bench only supports up to 250 pounds but the seat is cushioned and this bench also offers height adjustment. If you won’t be sitting at your digital keyboard a long time then this is comfortable enough but for long periods of time you might get a little stiff. Overall it gets the job done for the price you are paying and the difference between the Casio and Yamaha is minimal.
Ohuhu X-style Adjustable Padded Keyboard Bench
For my fourth try I thought I would go for a make that isn’t as well known as the Yamaha or Casio. Price between these two, I thought it was worth a go. It looks no different to the Casio but certainly has a different feel. It is nowhere near as sturdy as the others and is small, compact and fits neatly into any tiny space. The one thing that did impress me with this is that the materials were of very high quality, the PU leather didn’t make me sweat as others did and it was a lot more comfortable than I was initially expecting.
For travel convenience it takes just a minute to put up and put down and it light enough for you to carry around with you. The heavy duty steel construction allows for users up to 350 pounds and although it feels light it is more sturdy than it looks.
The legs have non slip caps attached on them which makes this safe to use on shiny surfaced floors as well. Overall I was more impressed with this X style bench than I was the others. I was expecting less before I tried but was overly satisfied after I had used it. So far my favorite, the price suited me perfect as well.
Adjustable Artist Piano Bench in Ebony
Last but not least I wanted to try out something that was on the higher end of the price range, that was adjustable, compact but was more luxurious and elegant looking than the X style benches. This solid hardwood bench in ebony came with some great features, looked great and was made of high quality durable materials.
The bench itself is adjustable which I loved, the high gloss finish on the legs and frame made it look like a designer piano bench and the storage compartment for music sheets and accessories got me all excited.
The deep diamond tufted seat with ten buttons and the soft padded cushion endorned with the soft leather made this a real treat when using. This scored high points for me when it came to both comfort and quality.
Piano Bench Conclusion
Overall I really like both style, the wooden benches and also the X style frames. Depending on what you are intending to use your digital piano for, both options are a great choice. If you are on the move all the time with your digital piano, teach or even have just a small space in your home for your music gear then the X style bench is perfect.
On the other hand if you want something elegant looking and one that is luxurious, classic and tops it when it comes to style then go for a wooden bench.
I personally loved the feel of the Yamaha bench and the price tag that came with it but I also loved the ebony wooden bench at the higher price range. Either way, if you plan on playing the digital piano a lot then you need to invest in a good sturdy bench to go with it.
